Deputy Minister Otto Hasibuan: Don't Feel You're Losing Out by Being Active in Student Organisations
Pangkalpinang - Deputy Minister of Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Otto Hasibuan emphasised that students should not feel they are losing out by being active in student organisations.
‘Being active in student organisations is highly beneficial as it helps manage time and thoughts. If students ask about the benefits now, I cannot answer immediately, but they will experience and enjoy them by the end of their academic journey,’ he said during a National Seminar and Public Lecture at the University of Bangka Belitung (UBB) in Balun Ijuk, Bangka Regency, on Sunday.
He stated that diligent study is essential, but students should not become bookworms, as successful people are not only academically proficient but also skilled in life.
He added that successful individuals are those who are adept in life. Being smart in school but not in life often leads to limited success in the real world.
‘I convey this to ensure students do not attend campus in vain, gaining significant benefits and achieving success in the future,’ he said.
During the event, Otto Hasibuan expressed pride in the students, noting the seminar’s focus on regional education issues.
The National Seminar, themed ‘Education Reform and Legal Awareness as the Foundation for Human Resource Development’, is part of UBB’s anniversary activities aimed at enhancing local human resources.
‘I am pleased to meet these students, as they are more capable than those from the past. Therefore, I want to encourage them that active participation in organisations is crucial,’ he said.
