Deputy Minister of Transportation (Wamenhub) Suntana stated that 147 million people travelled during 13 to 25 March 2026. He said this figure is higher than the data from the Ministry of Transportation’s survey. “Based on positioning data, from 13-25 March, over 17 days, the number of people travelling is 147 million, which is higher than our survey by 2.5 percent,” Suntana said during a press conference at the Presidential Staff Office in Jakarta on Wednesday (1/4/2026). Suntana expressed gratitude that Indonesians flocked to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with joy, and the travels proceeded safely and smoothly. He also noted that with the high number of people travelling during Eid, the volume of public transport during the Eid period also increased. “From the number of transports during this Eid period, it totals 23.5 million people, which has increased, indicating a shift where our society utilises public transport across all sectors. For example, road transport saw an increase of 11.6 percent, sea transport 9.86 percent, and air transport 6.97 percent,” he said. He mentioned that the air transport modes experiencing increases are aeroplanes and private jets. Additionally, trains saw a 10 percent increase. “There was indeed an increase in the need for aeroplanes and private jets for maintaining family ties,” he said. Vehicles Leaving Jabodetabek In the data presented by Suntana, he stated that 2.9 million vehicles left the Jabodetabek area. This also saw a 4 percent increase compared to last year. “The distribution of movements: 51 percent towards East Java, Central Java, East Java; 26.5 percent towards the west to Banten and surroundings; and 22 percent towards the south to Bogor City, Bogor Regency, Sukabumi City,” he revealed. Meanwhile, vehicles entering the Jabodetabek area were recorded at 2.7 million. This experienced a 0.4 percent decrease. In addition, speed and punctuality rates also saw improvements. The on-time performance for land modes was 74.9 percent, while for sea modes it was 96.9 percent. “This was assisted by BMKG’s mitigation efforts; the weather was still manageable, and services ran well. Domestic flights 76 percent, trains 96 percent, urban trains 98 percent, and ferry crossings 94 percent,” he explained.
