Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Requests Task Force for Mitigation of Transition to Permanent People's Schools
Deputy Minister of Social Affairs (Wamensos) Agus Jabo Priyono has emphasised the importance of mitigation measures during the transition from Pilot People’s Schools to Permanent People’s Schools currently under development. He made this statement during a Coordination Meeting of the People’s Schools Operational Control Task Force held at the Inten Soeweno Integrated Centre in Bogor, West Java, on Thursday 26 February 2026.
“Following the evaluation, the next step is mitigation of the transition and permanent school development. We are currently in a transition process. In essence, out of 166 pilot schools, not all have permanent school buildings being constructed this year,” said Agus Jabo in a written statement.
Agus Jabo reported that of the total 166 pilot People’s Schools, permanent buildings are currently being prepared at 98 locations. Accordingly, he invited the Operational Control Task Force to develop detailed and data-based transition simulation scenarios for moving pilot People’s Schools to permanent facilities.
“Schemes and simulations already exist, but at minimum this task force must be able to predict potential issues that may arise, especially for students, teachers and education staff who will be transferred from pilot schools to permanent schools located outside their current cities,” he stated.
Agus Jabo also provided several directives to the task force regarding the transition mitigation process. Firstly, he requested strengthened collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works regarding monitoring mechanisms for the progress of permanent People’s Schools construction.
“I am also involved in the oversight process to ensure that the permanent People’s Schools construction is truly on schedule so that by July we can already open or enrol new students, including transferring students from pilot schools,” he explained.
The next directive for transition mitigation to permanent People’s Schools is to promptly submit civil service personnel formations for teachers and education staff on a phased basis, no later than the end of March.
Finally, he emphasised the need to ensure all processes operate according to principles of prudence, accountability, and orientation towards the best interests of children.
“I would like to reiterate that all of this is in support of and to drive People’s Schools programmes in breaking the cycle of poverty transmission, so that it can truly be achieved,” he concluded.
The meeting was also attended by Acting Inspector General of the Ministry of Social Affairs Dody Sukmono, Special Adviser to the Minister of Social Affairs on Social Accessibility Abdul Muis, Special Assistant to the Minister of Social Affairs on Empowerment and Poverty Alleviation Ishaq Zubaedi Raqib, and other relevant stakeholders.
