Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Manpower (Wamenaker) Afriansyah Noor stated that the Domestic Workers Protection Act (UU PPRT) serves as the legal foundation for protecting domestic workers (PRT).

“The ratification of the Domestic Workers Protection Bill is expected to provide a legal basis for the protection of domestic workers in Indonesia,” said the Deputy Minister in his statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The ratification of the Domestic Workers Protection Bill in the DPR Plenary Session on Tuesday, he continued, ends a long wait of 22 years in providing legal certainty and social security guarantees for domestic workers.

“We, on behalf of the President, extend our thanks to the leadership and members of the DPR RI Legislation Body who, with full dedication and hard work, have completed the deliberation of the Domestic Workers Protection Bill,” said the Deputy Minister.

The man familiarly known as Ferry outlined several key contents regulated in the UU PPRT.

First, it covers recruitment and the scope of domestic work, as well as the employment relationship between domestic workers and employers based on agreements or work contracts.

Furthermore, this regulation encompasses the rights and obligations of domestic workers, employers, and domestic worker placement companies (P3RT).

“In addition, vocational training for prospective domestic workers and current domestic workers, business licensing for P3RT, and guidance and supervision of the implementation of domestic worker protection,” said Ferry.

The regulation also includes the resolution of disputes between employers, domestic workers, and/or P3RT, as well as community involvement in domestic worker protection.

On the other hand, Minister of Law (Menhukum) Supratman Andi Agtas emphasised that the establishment of the UU PPRT aims to provide legal certainty to domestic workers (PRT) and employers, prevent all forms of discrimination, exploitation, and harassment against PRT, and regulate harmonious employment relations that uphold humanitarian values and justice.

“After thoroughly considering the opinions of the factions, allow us, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Indonesia in this honourable meeting, to state agreement for the Domestic Workers Protection Bill to be ratified into law,” he said during the plenary session.
