Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Supports Upcycled Fashion to Strengthen Creative Economy Ecosystem
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf), Irene Umar, supports upcycled fashion or creative products from recycling to become a creativity- and intellectual property (IP)-based industry that can strengthen the creative economy ecosystem.
“We appreciate the boldness of Future Laundry in combining post-apocalyptic aesthetics with a spirit of sustainability as the identity of the future creative economy. The Ministry will continue to strengthen this ecosystem to make it more inclusive and have a real impact on creative actors in Bali and nationally,” said Irene in an official statement received on Monday.
Future Laundry delves into deconstruction techniques for second-hand clothing and the use of recycled materials as a solution for sustainable fashion. The Deputy Minister of Creative Economy assesses that the combination of tribal, sporty, anime, metal, and street culture elements in Ican Harem’s works has a unique appeal for the global young generation market.
The presence of Future Laundry proves that national identity can transform into modern, sustainable innovation with global competitiveness.
“Future Laundry is a real example of how creativity rooted in local culture and youth subcultures can transform into a resilient economic ecosystem. This visit aims to ensure that upcycled fashion innovation and creative IP receive the right support to compete in the international market,” she stated.
According to her, the strength of the creative economy is no longer limited to traditional symbols, but rather on how creative economy actors use culture as a foundation for future innovations that are sustainable and competitive on the world stage.
