Deputy Minister of Comdigi: Papua Now Has Two International Connectivity Routes
Jayapura (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital (Wamen Komdigi), Angga Raka Prabowo, stated that the city of Jayapura in Papua now has two international connectivity routes that strengthen the resilience of digital infrastructure in eastern Indonesia.
“The existence of these two international connectivity routes is a strategic step in supporting the equitable distribution of digital transformation and the development of the digital economy in Papua and the Asia-Pacific region,” he said in Jayapura on Friday (8/5).
According to Angga, Jayapura was previously connected via the Sulawesi-Maluku-Papua connectivity route.
“Meanwhile, the second route that has just been inaugurated connects Vanimo in Papua New Guinea to Jayapura, then links to Manado and Los Angeles, United States, via the SEA-US cable,” he said during the inauguration of the Pukpuk Submarine Cable System (Puk-Puk 1) at Telkom Witel Jayapura, Papua.
“With the arrival of this submarine cable, Papua now has two independent international connectivity legs, enabling it to open new opportunities and accelerate digital transformation across various sectors of community life,” he added.
He further expressed appreciation to PT Telkom Indonesia through Telkom International (Telin) for successfully collaborating with PNG DataCo to bring the Pukpuk Submarine Cable System.
“Thus, the cable serves as part of strengthening cross-border telecommunications infrastructure between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea,” he said.
“Therefore, the presence of the Pukpuk Submarine Cable is an important part in creating more equitable connectivity that is reliable, resilient, and able to provide benefits to communities in eastern Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and across the nation,” he added.
Previously, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) through its operating company PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (Telin) inaugurated the Pukpuk Submarine Cable System (Puk-Puk 1), a collaboration with PNG DataCo.
The inauguration was conducted by Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, Angga Raka Prabowo, and the President Director of Telkom Indonesia, accompanied by Telkom’s Director of Wholesale and International Service, Budi Satria Dharma Purba, Deputy Consul of Papua New Guinea in Jayapura, Leon Galemo, Acting Secretary of Papua’s Regional Government, Christian Sohilait, and witnessed by Telin’s CEO, Kharisma, and PNG DataCo’s CEO, Paul Komboi, at Telkom Witel Jayapura, Jayapura City, Papua, on Friday (8/5).
