Jakarta (ANTARA) -

Deputy Minister for Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf), Irene Umar, is pushing for the activation of strengthened distribution of local games to grow sustainably through international events.

“We cannot rely solely on the local market, but must activate strengthened distribution of local games to grow sustainably through international events,” said Deputy Minister Irene in an official statement received on Friday.

According to Irene, strengthening the domestic market is important as a foundation for the growth of local games towards the global market. Subsequently, opportunities in the games subsector will become even more open with activation at international events.

In this regard, the Deputy Minister is exploring synergy opportunities with Tabletoys Indonesia, a potentially promising local board game entity.

This games subsector is considered to have an ecosystem that adds value and brings local identity to the global market.

“There are many events that we can promote as places to showcase board games together with Tabletoys Indonesia. Thus, the games subsector can succeed because it has economic value and serves as an educational medium,” said Irene.

Tabletoys Indonesia began its journey in 2016 through a Board Game Store and continued in 2017 with a Board Game Library as an introduction period for board games and market preparation.

From the perspective of creative economy fighters, the President Director of Tabletoys Indonesia, Martin Ang, conveyed several challenges faced, such as limited distribution of local games to the domestic market and association support deemed not yet representative of game publishers’ interests.

He also stated that his side is focusing on strengthening branding, both locally and internationally, thus requiring assistance to be facilitated.

“We started from the community and then developed until we can bring Indonesian games to the international market. Tabletoys Indonesia certainly needs to sustain and scale up. We also need international presence to get assistance for Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) registration,” said Martin Ang.
