Magelang (ANTARA) – The Deputy Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI), Dzulfikar Ahmad Tawalla, said there have been no casualties among Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Iran. He stated in Magelang, Central Java, on Saturday that preliminary data from the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) indicate around 100 to 200 workers there have an illegal status. He made the remarks after the Nuzulul Qur’an study and the inauguration of a Mini Soccer field at SMK Mutual in Magelang City, which was attended by Magelang Mayor Damar Prasetyono, Deputy Mayor Sri Harso and Magelang City PDM Chairman Rifqi Muhammad. He added that the government urges Indonesians in Iran to coordinate with the local KBRI to facilitate data collection and monitoring of their conditions amid the rising escalation of conflict in the region. In addition, he said, the government also asks families of Indonesian migrant workers in Iran to proactively report the whereabouts of their family members to the government so that data collection can be carried out more precisely. The government emphasises it will continue to monitor security developments in the region. If the escalation of conflict increases, the government will prepare measured steps to ensure the safety of WNI in Iran. Regarding the potential conflict that also targets US military bases in several Gulf states, the government says it will continue coordinating with RI representatives in the region, including the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) and the Consulate General of Indonesia (KJRI). “The government again urges families of WNI who have relatives working in the Middle East to coordinate with the government so that the data on the presence of Indonesians can be more accurate,” he said. He added that the government hopes the escalation of the conflict will subside soon so that security conditions return to stability and the international community can again feel peace.
