Deputy Minister for Public Housing and Public Works pushes for Fishermen's Village redevelopment in Kendari
Kendari – Deputy Minister for Housing and Settlement (PKP) Fahri Hamzah has urged the redevelopment of the fisherman’s village area in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra). Fahri Hamzah told reporters in Kendari on Thursday that coastal areas such as Poasia are not only found in Kendari but are spread across various parts of Indonesia where communities reside, and thus require better planning. “We are an archipelagic country with thousands of coastal areas inhabited by communities. Therefore, areas like these must be arranged properly,” Fahri Hamzah said during his visit to the coastal settlement on Jalan Bhayangkari Bahari, Kelurahan Poasia, Kecamatan Abeli, Kendari. He explained that this aligns with the central government programme to organise coastal areas through Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih by President Prabowo Subianto. “The programme targets the arrangement of around 1,000 coastal areas each year,” he said. Fahri Hamzah noted that coastal area development is not only about physical construction but must be accompanied by improvements in sanitation and proper waste management to keep the environment clean and healthy. “The priority is maintaining the environment, sanitation, and proper waste management. All parties must be involved to ensure that the areas that have been arranged do not become dirty again,” he said. He also emphasised the importance of community involvement in keeping the environment clean so that the rearranged coastal areas can become a decent and comfortable place to live for residents. The Deputy Minister for Public Works and Public Housing (PKP) Fahri Hamzah’s visit to Kendari included two Agenda items with the local government: a coordination meeting (Rakor) with regional government officials across Southeast Sulawesi and a visit to the coastal settlement in Kendari.
