Deputy Investment Minister Urges PLN to Provide 3-5 Gigawatts of Electricity in Batam
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Deputy Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Todotua Pasaribu has urged state electricity company PLN to promptly provide 3-5 gigawatts of electricity for Batam.
According to Todotua, Batam is set to experience significant investment growth, and PLN therefore needs to make preparations to support the electricity supply.
"I spoke with PLN as well about Batam. I told them that very soon there will be extraordinary growth there. I said PLN needs to prepare. Three to five gigawatts can be developed in Batam, which is why I told PLN to accelerate it," Todotua said in Jakarta on Thursday.
He noted that PLN has plans to run a cable from Sumatra to supply electricity to Batam. According to him, one of the infrastructure issues that must be resolved in Batam is electricity availability.
With adequate electricity supply, Todotua added, investors would no longer hesitate to invest in the area.
"Because one of the issues with Batam is electricity, and this electricity must also be competitively priced. I'm not talking about cheap, but competitive electricity that we can also mitigate risks with," he said.
Previously, a number of BP Batam officials met with President Prabowo to discuss the acceleration of investment in Jakarta on Thursday 22 May. BP Batam is focused on efforts to accelerate investment and align strategic policies between the central and regional governments.
