Deputy Interior Minister Appreciates Palembang City Government's Plan to Implement Waste-to-Electricity Processing
This is a progressive step, a breakthrough. The President targets that within three years, there will be no more piled-up waste. Everything will become energy later or be recycled subsequently. Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Interior Minister (Wamendagri) Bima Arya Sugiarto has appreciated the Palembang City Government (Pemkot), which is preparing to become the first city to implement the Waste-to-Electricity Processing (PSEL) programme. “This is a progressive step, a breakthrough. The President targets that within three years, there will be no more piled-up waste. Everything will become energy later or be recycled subsequently,” Bima stated in Jakarta on Wednesday. The PSEL is planned to start operating in October. Bima described this breakthrough as a strategic step in line with the national targets and directives of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. He explained that the PSEL programme is part of the eight national priority programme clusters, particularly in the energy and resource management sector. In addition, Bima instructed regional heads to ensure the success of other priority programmes, such as the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG), by building an integrated supply chain system from upstream to downstream. On the same occasion, Bima also appreciated South Sumatra Province for its solid macroeconomic achievements, which are believed to have great potential to support the acceleration of national development. On the other hand, Bima explained that the inflation rate in South Sumatra Province year-on-year as of 1 April 2026 is 3.09 percent, while the open unemployment rate is below the national average. Furthermore, Bima emphasised that various innovations must be accompanied by a paradigm shift in bureaucracy through the statecraft concept. This concept emphasises skills or the art of managing the state. He encouraged all Civil Servants (ASN) in South Sumatra to work reliably, skilfully, and intelligently in utilising the 2045 demographic bonus momentum. “We now have the demographic bonus momentum. If we utilise it, we will leap out of the middle-income trap,” he said.
