Deputy Home Affairs Minister, together with civil servants and IPDN cadets in NTB, launches Beach Clean-Up Campaign
Bima stressed that the Indonesia ASRI movement is not merely ceremonial or incidental, but must become part of the daily life of local governments (Pemda). ‘There is one thing entrusted by the President to all regional heads and the Minister of Home Affairs asks us to guard and monitor it—that is the ASRI movement, safe, healthy, clean, and beautiful—we will guard it,’ he said in a written statement on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.
He said this during the Morning Assembly and Beach Clean-Up Movement at Senggigi Beach, West Lombok, NTB, today.
He added that President Prabowo has given special attention to tourist areas, including Lombok. Prabowo emphasised the importance of keeping tourist destinations clean to give visitors, including international tourists, a good impression.
Therefore, local governments are not to neglect waste issues and must manage them wisely.
‘Through the morning jog with these IPDN cadets, and along the road we still saw piles of rubbish. That is our homework, although overall the beaches in Lombok, I think Senggigi are beautiful and clean. But it would be better if everyone moved, and not just incidentally,’ he said.
On that occasion, Bima also cited the Ciliwung Care Community in Bogor that actively cleans up rubbish. The community has been operating for over a decade. According to him, this community-based movement is a good practice that local governments should continue to foster.
‘There is the Ciliwung Care Community that cleans every day, and even expands, not only to rivers but also to parks. So we want this to become part of our collective awareness,’ he added.
Furthermore, he hoped that regional heads could embed the ASRI movement through programmes running from upstream to downstream. He said that keeping the environment clean is not just about picking up rubbish, but also requires direct involvement of regional heads to go out into the field.
He imparted a message to the IPDN cadets attending the assembly that in the future, when they become regional heads, they should stay close to the people and actively work in the field.
‘The message is: you must continue to go out into the field. Do not get stuck behind a desk, do not get stuck in ceremonial events. Go out into the field, ensure your staff, your subordinates move with the people to always keep things clean,’ he concluded.
