Deputy Governor Rano Hopes Planetarium Becomes Space for Educational Film Screenings
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor (Wagub) of DKI Jakarta, Rano Karno, hopes that public facilities such as the Jakarta Planetarium can be utilised as spaces for screening educational films. “In this way, it can reach more of the public over a longer period of time,” he said in his statement in Jakarta on Saturday. Rano emphasised that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) supports the national film industry as part of efforts to make Jakarta a world-class global cinema city. He conveyed this while attending a group viewing event of the film “Pelangi di Mars” together with hundreds of orphaned children, recipients of the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP), and children from orphanages in the Karet Kuningan area, South Jakarta, on Friday (27/3/2026). A total of 230 KJP recipients and 169 social welfare beneficiaries from the Putra Utama 1 Children’s Social Welfare Home and the Tunas Bangsa Infant Children’s Social Welfare Home attended along with their escorts, enjoying the film rich in moral messages and hope. Rano stated that the event was not merely entertainment, but also an effort to bring happiness while fostering children’s care for their surroundings. According to him, the activity encourages Jakarta’s children to remain enthusiastic while being concerned about the environment, as well as providing space for togetherness and educational entertainment. “This group viewing (nobar) activity is expected not only to provide entertainment, but also to nurture the spirit of learning, self-confidence, and the courage of Jakarta’s children to achieve a better future,” Rano said. Regarding the film, he opined that “Pelangi di Mars” highlights values of diversity that align with Jakarta’s character as an inclusive city that provides space for every child to grow and achieve their aspirations. Therefore, he urged children not only to study diligently, but also to care for their surroundings. “Like a beautiful rainbow due to its diverse colours, Jakarta is also strong because of its diversity. Every child has equal opportunities to develop and dream. Therefore, care for the environment can start from simple things in daily life,” he said. He also appreciated the filmmakers and production houses that brought educational and inspirational films for Indonesian children.
