Deputy Chief of Police Komjen Dedi Prasetyo led the groundbreaking for the police social science laboratory at the Indonesian Police Academy (Akpol), part of the Police Education and Training Centre in Semarang, Central Java. Komjen Dedi stated that educational institutions must be strengthened.

“Why must educational institutions be strengthened? Because educational institutions are one way to change mindset and culture in reform; it cannot be otherwise,” said Komjen Dedi during his speech at the event in Akpol Semarang on Monday (30/3/2026).

He said that strengthening educational facilities is also aimed at improving the quality of trainees.

“In the theory of garbage in, garbage out, if recruited and educated well, the results will certainly be good. Conversely, if recruitment and education are problematic, in problematic places, the results will certainly be problematic too,” he continued.

Komjen Dedi explained that the development of knowledge is very rapid and dynamic. Therefore, the Indonesian National Police (Polri), which has education and training institutions, must make “leaps” so as not to become a lagging institution.

“All this knowledge is developing very dynamically. We can no longer just sit still; we need to make leaps. Advanced countries prepared five years ago. Well, if we do not make preparations too, we will lag behind for the next 50 years,” stressed the former Central Kalimantan Police Chief.

The maximum utilisation of the police social science laboratory facilities will also help police develop more progressive frameworks in responding to various contemporary challenges. In the disaster field, Komjen Dedi explained that the police approach is directed towards increasing preparedness in facing natural disasters.

“This laboratory also prepares progressive thinking related to emergency and contingency policing, covering disaster, social, and digital fields. Every dynamic requires a measured approach based on scientific knowledge,” said Komjen Dedi.

Meanwhile, in the social field, the focus is directed at handling conflicts and various social issues in society. In the digital field, attention is focused on phenomena such as misinformation, disinformation, the spread of fake news, and AI-based information disruption.

“Therefore, scientific steps are needed, through multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches in making comprehensive, data-based strategic decisions,” Komjen Dedi emphasised.
