Deputy Chief of Police Komjen Dedi Prasetyo has affirmed the strengthening of the Police Science Study Centre as a strategic foundation to address societal dynamics and modern security threats. Komjen Dedi assessed that police duties are becoming increasingly complex, along with cross-border crimes and technology-based offences.

Komjen Dedi noted that developments in the global security landscape indicate that crimes are no longer conventional. This former Head of the Polri Public Relations Division stated that crimes have evolved into multidimensional phenomena, including cybercrime, digital fraud, and cross-country organised networks.

“The Police Science Study Centre is Polri’s intellectual infrastructure in reading the future. Today’s crimes cannot be addressed with old approaches. We need policies based on research, data, and multidimensional analysis so that Polri remains relevant, effective, and trusted by the public,” said Komjen Dedi in his statement from the Police Study Centre at STIK-PTIK Lemdiklat Polri on Sunday (19/4/2026).

Komjen Dedi encouraged Lemdiklat Polri to continue developing a police research ecosystem based on collaboration with the academic world. This research ecosystem, he said, is part of the institutional transformation towards an adaptive and knowledge-based institution.

“Research is the foundation of Polri’s transformation. Through the study centre, we build evidence-based policing capable of addressing modern crime challenges, from cyber threats and transnational crimes to hybrid public order and security disruptions,” he explained.

“This is a long-term investment to ensure Polri is always one step ahead of criminals,” added Komjen Dedi.

This former Central Kalimantan Police Chief emphasised that strengthening the study centre is part of Polri’s grand transformation strategy. Polri positions science as the main basis for policy-making.

“The study centre must become a space for integration between law, technology, social sciences, and geopolitics. Thus, every police policy is not only operationally precise but also academically strong and accountable to the public,” he clarified.

This former Assistant to the Chief of Police for Human Resources explained in more depth the important role of the study centre, which includes developing evidence-based policing based on data and scientific research, building predictive models of crime patterns, examining asymmetric and hybrid threats, and integrating geopolitical and geo-economic analyses into security strategies. “With Indonesia’s strategic position in the Indo-Pacific region and the acceleration of national digitalisation, the existence of the police science study centre becomes increasingly crucial in maintaining public order and security stability and protecting the public from various forms of modern crime,” said Komjen Dedi.

It is recorded that Polri has signed 77 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with leading universities across Indonesia, 25 universities have Cooperation Agreements (PKS) and have launched Police Study Centres, and 16 Police Study Centres with scientific specialisations have been established at STIK-PTIK Lemdiklat Polri.
