Deputy Chair of House of Representatives Commission X Lalu Hadrian Irfani has welcomed the growing popularity of padel courts across various areas. However, he stressed that the trend must align with spatial planning and environmental impact considerations, following complaints from residents disturbed by noise from a padel court in the Haji Nawi area of Cilandak, South Jakarta.

“I view this phenomenon positively as it shows growing public interest in sport. However, this growth must still take into account aspects of comfort and neighbourhood order,” Lalu told reporters on Thursday (19 February 2026).

Lalu Hadrian urged local governments to ensure that every padel court development complies with spatial planning regulations and environmental impact analysis. He noted that noise threshold standards must also be observed by facility operators.

“I am urging local governments to ensure every padel court development meets spatial planning regulations and environmental impact analysis requirements, including noise threshold standards,” said Lalu Hadrian.

“If necessary, operators can install sound dampeners and limit operating hours so as not to disturb nearby residents,” he added.

A resident living in the Haji Nawi area of South Jakarta had complained about noise generated by a padel court business near their home. The resident’s complaint gained widespread attention on the social media platform Threads on Thursday (19 February).

In their post, the resident said noise from the padel court was disrupting their activities and those of neighbouring residents. The resident also reported having lodged their complaint through the JAKI application and official Jakarta Provincial Government channels, including tagging the account of Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung on social media, but had not yet received a response.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung subsequently addressed the complaint. He said he would summon the operators and relevant stakeholders to discuss the matter.

Pramono said the summons would be issued in the near future to ensure all permits and padel business operations comply with prevailing regulations.

“Next week I will invite all stakeholders specifically related to padel permits. I have asked for a presentation to be prepared,” Pramono told reporters at Jakarta City Hall.
