Deputy Baleg Discusses Prospects of New Agency as Central Hub for Managing Indonesia's Single Data
Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Legislation Body (Baleg) DPR RI, Ahmad Doli Kurnia, discussed the prospects of a new agency holding or serving as the central manager of Indonesia’s Single Data (SDI). He stated that considerations for this input are still being reviewed by Baleg DPR RI in the deliberation of the Single Data Indonesia Bill.
“Well, that’s what we’re still discussing up to now. Because initially, the concept that reached us in Baleg was that the Single Data Indonesia Law was mentioned as building an orchestration system. And if you look at the existing presidential regulation, it’s Bappenas that orchestrates it,” Doli said at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday (6/4/2026).
Doli mentioned that the SDI Bill must become a momentum for Indonesia to integrate data from institutions to ministries. He said that there must eventually be an agreement on which institution or body is directly responsible to the President.
“Yes, so far the data has been scattered everywhere, in all agencies. The Ministry of Social Affairs has its own data, the Ministry of Agriculture has its own data, the Ministry of Home Affairs especially has its own data. This should be integrated,” Doli stated.
“Then, it should designate one body or institution—whether it’s a ministry that is agreed upon as the data guardian that is directly responsible to the President,” he added.
He noted that up to now, Baleg DPR is still examining several considerations regarding the central party for managing that single data. According to him, there is an open possibility of a new body to handle it.
“It’s possible. It’s possible, that’s what we’re reviewing. Whether a new body is needed, and whether it should be attached to an existing ministry or institution,” he said.
Doli stated that discussions on integrated single data were once raised in the initial draft of the Statistics Bill. According to him, there needs to be a deepening of who will be responsible for managing the integrated data.
“So statistics is upstream, the way to obtain data. The issue then is after this data exists, who collects it, if collected what is the methodology, and who is responsible for this data. That’s what we’re discussing now,” he added.
