Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono: Indonesia's Rice Stockpile Surpasses 5 Million Tonnes
The government under President Prabowo Subianto’s leadership has achieved a new milestone in national food security. The government’s rice reserves managed by Perum Bulog have officially surpassed the figure of 5,000,198 tonnes on 23 April 2026, marking the highest in Indonesia’s history.
This achievement was directly conveyed by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono during his inspection of the Bulog Sukamaju Warehouse in Palembang City. During the visit, he directly verified the condition of the rice stock stored in the warehouse.
“Today is 23 April 2026, and Bulog, as the institution tasked with storing the government’s rice reserves, has stored the highest amount in the history of the Republic of Indonesia at 5,000,198 tonnes—the highest throughout history, the highest since Bulog’s existence, and the highest since the Republic was founded,” stated Deputy Minister Sudaryono on Thursday (23/4/2026).
Furthermore, Deputy Minister Sudaryono, affectionately known as Mas Dar, emphasised that this achievement represents an important moment reflecting the success of national food policies. According to him, this record is inseparable from collaborative efforts across sectors to strengthen domestic rice production and distribution.
To ensure the validity of this achievement, Mas Dar admitted to conducting direct inspections at several locations, including those carried out by Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman in Karawang, West Java. The inspections were conducted to directly observe harvest results and the condition of stored rice reserves.
“Earlier, I toured with all my colleagues, including Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman in Karawang; we verified and directly checked the results as well as the condition of our rice reserves stored in Bulog warehouses,” said Deputy Minister Sudaryono.
From the inspection results, Sudaryono, who is also the General Chairman of the Indonesian Farmers Harmony Association (HKTI), confirmed that the rice quality is in good condition. He even conducted random checks, including opening sealed rice sacks to ensure there was no quality degradation.
“Earlier, we checked the quality—it’s good; some are one year old, some six months, all in good condition, no weevils. I’ve randomly checked everything, and even the sealed ones I asked to be opened,” he revealed.
In addition to serving as a national strategic reserve, the rice stock will also be utilised to support food assistance programmes for the public. Thus, Bulog’s role is deemed vital in maintaining supply stability while controlling rice prices in the market.
“This, God willing, is for in-out distribution of food assistance. So Bulog is in prime condition for storing the government’s rice reserves,” stated Deputy Minister Sudaryono.
From the production side, data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) on national performance shows a very positive trend. National rice production in 2025 was recorded to have increased by 4.07 million tonnes to 34.69 million tonnes, or 13.29%, compared to the previous year, supported by expanded harvested area and various agricultural sector strengthening policies.
At the end of his remarks, Mas Dar, also known as a farmer’s son from Grobogan, expressed appreciation to all parties contributing to this achievement, from farmers and agricultural extension workers to support from TNI, Police, Prosecutor’s Office, and local governments.
“Congratulations to agriculture, congratulations to Indonesian farmers. This achievement must be maintained and well-accounted for before all the Indonesian people,” he concluded.
