Deported workers transit at Belawan

MEDAN, North Sumatra: As of the second week of this month, Malaysia has deported 725 illegal Indonesian migrant workers through Belawan seaport, 38 kilometer south of here, since the beginning of this year.

According to Antara, 667 of them were deported because their passports had expired, while the rest had manipulated immigration documents or used tourist permits to seek jobs.

The returned migrant workers were mostly from East Nusa Tenggara, East Java and North Sumatra.

Last month, Malaysia also reportedly deported some 2,571 Indonesia migrant workers through the same port.(01)
