Depok to Send 750 Tonnes of Waste per Day to Bogor for Processing into Electricity
Depok, Kompas.com - The collaboration on waste-to-energy electricity (PSEL) between Depok City and Bogor City is being prepared as a long-term solution for waste management. The programme is targeted to operate in 2028, utilising cross-regional supplies to meet raw material needs. Depok Mayor Supian Suri explained that the collaboration scheme positions Bogor City as the processing location, while Depok serves as one of the main waste suppliers. “Bogor City is preparing its facilities, while Depok sends its waste,” Supian said on Thursday (23/4/2026), quoted from Tribunnews. This volume is needed to support PSEL operations, which require a minimum supply of around 1,000 tonnes of waste per day. Supian acknowledged that Bogor City’s current waste production capacity does not meet this requirement, making inter-regional collaboration crucial. “Insha’Allah, from early 2028, waste shipments from Depok to Bogor can run at a capacity of around 750 tonnes per day,” he said. He assessed that Depok’s involvement in this project will directly impact the reduction of the burden on final disposal sites (TPA) in its area. According to him, education on household waste sorting needs to be strengthened, particularly through the role of PKK cadres at the community level. “Separation of organic and inorganic waste must be continuously habitualised so that downstream management is more optimal,” he stated. On the other hand, the Bogor City Government is accelerating the construction of two PSEL facilities as part of the transformation of the waste management system. Bogor Mayor Dedie A. Rachim mentioned that the first project is located in Galuga, Cibungbulang Subdistrict, Bogor Regency, which has entered the stage of signing the cooperation agreement.
