Depok City Government Follows Central Government with WFH Every Friday
The Depok City Government (Pemkot) in West Java is following the central government’s policy by implementing work from home (WFH) for Civil Servants (ASN) in Depok every Friday. This step is taken as a follow-up to the central government’s policy.
“Pemkot Depok will implement the work-from-home or WFH policy for ASN in Depok City every Friday. We will follow the instructions of President Prabowo Subianto,” said Depok Mayor Supian Suri on Friday (3/4/2026).
This affirmation came after Pemkot Depok consulted with the West Java Provincial Government (Pemprov). “We have coordinated with Pemprov West Java regarding this policy. And we ensure that the WFH policy for ASN in Depok City will be aligned with the central government’s directives,” he said.
WFH in Depok City, Supian Suri continued, will be implemented one day a week, namely every Friday. This step is taken as a strategy for national energy efficiency and an adaptive response to the energy crisis due to global geopolitical tensions.
Supian added that the WFH policy for Depok City ASN, which was previously implemented every Monday, will be shifted to Fridays. “WFH will be shifted to every Friday. The Personnel and Human Resources Development Agency (BKPSDM) will formulate the technical implementation of WFH to ensure it runs effectively without disrupting public services,” he explained.
Supian Suri emphasised that structural officials such as Heads of Agencies, Heads of Boards, Sub-District Heads, and Village Heads will not be subject to WFH. Because they must ensure that services to the community continue to run optimally. “Anyway, we will adhere to all the provisions set by the central government,” he stated.
Furthermore, Supian Suri added that this WFH policy for ASN is a way to address the energy crisis due to the Middle East war, which has been ongoing for several weeks. To date, the Middle East war shows no signs of a ceasefire in the war between Iran and the United States and its ally Israel.
“This has made several countries anxious, especially regarding the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz as the world’s oil distribution route,” he explained.
It is known that the Central Government has officially implemented the WFH policy for all ASN as part of energy conservation amid the Middle East war. The WFH policy for ASN became effective on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
The WFH policy for all ASN is outlined in Circular Letter No. 3 of 2026 from the Minister of PAN-RB on the Implementation of Civil Service Duties for ASN Employees in Government Agencies, effective from 1 April 2026.
The Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (MenPAN-RB), Rini Widyantini, explained that this adjustment serves as a guide for government agencies in regulating the implementation of civil service duties for ASN more flexibly while prioritising organisational performance.
The launch of eight pillars of national work culture transformation is seen as the government’s initial appropriate step in responding to global pressures due to the Middle East conflict.
The Lamongan Regency Government in East Java has begun implementing a policy to adjust the work patterns of civil servants (ASN) through the Work From Home (WFH) mechanism.
Global work pattern changes are increasingly evident, driven by evolving employee expectations across generations.
The WFH scheme is only intended for ASN whose duties do not directly involve public services.
This policy also provides direct economic benefits to workers by reducing transportation and daily operational costs.
