Residents of Depok City, particularly those in the Bukit Cengkeh 1 and 2 housing complexes in Tugu Ward, Cimanggis Subdistrict, have lodged complaints about recurring floods with West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi (KDM). They assess that the Depok City Government (Pemkot Depok) has failed to provide solutions to the problem that has persisted for years.

“Greetings to Mr KDM, we do not know who else to complain to. Every time it rains, Bukit Cengkeh 1 and 2 housing complexes continue to flood, causing us stress,” said Ganjar, 40, a residents’ representative, on Thursday night (2/4/2026).

Ganjar requested that the West Java Governor directly intervene to resolve the flooding issue, as there have been no effective steps from Pemkot Depok to date. He noted that even brief rain is sufficient to inundate the area.

According to him, during major floods, water levels in residents’ homes can reach 1 to 2 metres or more. This condition recurred on Saturday (21/3/2026), when hundreds of homes were submerged due to heavy rain lasting approximately three hours.

As a result of the flooding, hundreds of residents were forced to evacuate to safer locations.

“Residents of Bukit Cengkeh 1 and 2 have received a treasure trove or a calamity of floods that has lasted for decades, yet the city government has been unable to resolve it,” he stated.

Residents hope that the West Java Provincial Government can step in to provide concrete solutions, especially since the flooding is suspected to be triggered by the suboptimal maintenance of rivers over the years.

Ganjar emphasised that the recurring floods have caused significant losses to the community.

“As residents, we have become victims of floods that damage businesses, homes, electronic appliances, and more,” he revealed.

Similar complaints were voiced by Opung Mutiara Rajagukguk Boru Naibaho, 74. She said the flood on 21 March damaged many of her household furnishings, rendering them unusable.

“Even now, my mattress is not dry yet. The fridge and other furnishings cannot be used at all. For the time being, we sleep on the floor,” she said.

Opung Mutiara explained that flooding in Bukit Cengkeh 1 and 2 housing complexes is not a new occurrence but has happened for years.

“We are already stressed because every rain affects our housing complex,” she stressed.
