Denpasar Still Short of 30 School Principals, 41 New Appointments Receive Assignment Decrees
The Denpasar City Government handed over assignment decrees to 41 school principals at the early childhood/ kindergarten, primary, and junior secondary levels on Thursday (9/4/2026). The handover was conducted to improve educational quality while strengthening the management of educational units.
Denpasar City Secretary, I Gusti Ngurah Eddy Mulya, stated that the assigned principals had undergone a consideration process and were deemed suitable. Nevertheless, evaluations will continue during their tenure.
“This appointment is clear, in line with the consideration team. They have been inaugurated and declared suitable, but evaluations are needed in implementation,” Eddy said at the Denpasar Education Office.
Eddy emphasised that the newly assigned principals must carry out their mandates in accordance with their responsibilities, maintain professionalism, and manage educational units, particularly in building students’ character.
He hopes that the principals can work optimally in their new assignments and improve achievements as well as the quality of education in Denpasar City.
“On the other hand, of course, the principals, assisted by mediators and others, can continue to enhance achievements and the quality of education in Denpasar City,” he explained.
Additionally, he reminded that no teaching staff vacancies should occur due to these assignments. According to him, teacher needs have been anticipated by the relevant agency.
“Do not let vacancies occur, whether in specific subjects or class teachers; this can be understood. I am confident that the Head of the agency has prepared everything,” Eddy added.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Denpasar City Education Office, AA Gede Wiratama, said that the current principal needs have been partially met through these assignments. However, there are still around 30 vacant principal positions at the early childhood/kindergarten, primary, and junior secondary levels.
“This includes substantive exams and computer-assisted tests (CAT),” Gede Wiratama explained.
Of the 41 principals who received assignment decrees, one is at the early childhood/kindergarten level, 34 at primary schools, and the remaining two at junior secondary schools. Furthermore, he mentioned that there are four junior secondary principals who received extensions for their second assignment period.
“We hope that the principals who receive assignments can also uphold the dignity of education in Denpasar City and improve the quality in their educational units,” he added.
