Denpasar Police Confiscate 1.4 Kilograms of Cocaine from British National
Denpasar (ANTARA) - The Narcotics Unit of the Denpasar City Police confiscated 1,419.79 grams, or 1.4 kilograms, of cocaine from a British national with the initials BJ (53).
Denpasar Police Chief, Commissioner Leonardo David Simatupang, during a press conference in Denpasar on Wednesday, said the suspect was arrested by police on Saturday (February 14th) while at a hotel in the Legian area, Kuta, Badung.
“The person concerned is a British citizen, born and residing in Hong Kong for a long time. He claimed to have only arrived in Bali at the end of December and was only there for tourism. He used a tourist passport,” he said.
During the search, officers found four packages containing cocaine, wrapped in boxes and stored in a suitcase.
From further investigation, the suspect admitted to receiving the package from someone in exchange for a fee of IDR 1 billion.
The Denpasar Police Chief stated that they are still investigating the parties involved in the distribution of the goods.
“He admitted to taking the goods from someone and picking them up at a villa, and there was no specific target for distribution, as they would later be taken by another party. We are still conducting further investigation, but the preliminary suspicion is that this case involves an international network,” he said.
He explained that if converted to Rupiah, the estimated value of the evidence is more than IDR 5 billion to almost IDR 6 billion.
For his actions, the perpetrator is charged under Article 114 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 118 paragraph 2, which carries a penalty of death.
