Denpasar (ANTARA) - The Mayor of Denpasar, I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara, stated that the enforcement of minor criminal offences (tipiring) related to waste management violations will be carried out gradually, prioritising an educational approach towards the community. Jaya Negara said that the enforcement of regulations, including the application of tipiring sanctions, will be implemented after services and supporting infrastructure are available optimally. He appreciated the attention and support from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry towards waste management efforts in Denpasar City, particularly the achievement of more than 60 percent of the community having carried out waste separation at source. According to him, this achievement is the result of collaborative efforts from various elements, starting from customary villages, regional apparatus, to environmental communities that consistently educate the public. “We express our thanks for the appreciation given by the Minister. This becomes motivation for us in Denpasar City to continue strengthening the source separation movement,” he said. The Denpasar City Government, he continued, is intensifying source-based waste management programmes, including the optimisation of facilities such as the Kesiman Kertalangu Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST), Tahura TPST, and Reduce–Reuse–Recycle Waste Management Sites (TPS3R) at the village and sub-district levels. In addition, the distribution of composters to the community is also being promoted to strengthen household waste processing. The distribution of this equipment is expected to accelerate the implementation of source-based waste management. During the visit, the Minister of Environment and the entourage also inspected several locations, including the Suwung Landfill, Tahura TPST 1 and 2, and the Sesetan TPS3R in South Denpasar.
