Denny JA Recognised as an Impactful Corporate Leader
Bali, VIVA – The President Commissioner and Independent Commissioner of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), Denny JA, has received the AMA Appreciation Award 2026 in Sanur, Bali.
AMA, the Indonesian Management Association, is a professional organisation established in 1989 that serves as a learning space and networking hub for Indonesian management practitioners.
The award was presented during the AMA Indonesia Conference 2026, which adopted the theme “From Management to Wealth Creation,” focusing on the evolving meaning of corporate leadership.
AMA Indonesia assessed that, as President Commissioner, Denny JA has contributed to expanding PHE’s strategic horizons, driving professional and responsible decision-making, and strengthening the company’s learning and leadership ecosystem.
However, in his speech, Denny JA urged participants not to view the award as the pinnacle of their journey, but rather as an opportunity to re-examine the meaning of leadership.
“What is truly the duty of a corporate leader when times change so rapidly, technology leaps so far, and human needs continue to evolve?” he asked.
Reflecting on the theme of wealth creation, Denny JA invited participants to consider one of the most dramatic business stories of the modern era: Elon Musk and SpaceX.
What is interesting about Elon Musk is not merely the scale of wealth created, but how that wealth was born from the creation of new value.
For decades, space was primarily the domain of governments, defence agencies, and scientific projects that could only be undertaken with extraordinary costs.
SpaceX helped transform that landscape, particularly through the development of rocket systems that allow primary components to return to Earth and be reused.
“In the past, most rockets were treated like matches. Used once, then discarded. Space travel was therefore incredibly expensive,” he said.
Imagine if every time an aircraft landed, that aircraft had to be discarded, and for the next flight, we had to build an entirely new plane.
The principle of the reusable rocket changed that logic, helping to reduce launch costs while opening up the possibilities of a space economy that was previously much harder to realise.
This is where wealth creation finds its meaning. Great wealth is not always born from someone successfully taking a larger share of an existing market.
