Dengue fever hits Papua

JAYAPURA, Papua: Dengue Fever, which recently struck many areas on the island of Java, has now broken out in Papua, with seven people reportedly being treated at hospitals in Jayapura and Fakfak since past month.

K. Malissa, the director of Abepura Hospital, said that all six dengue patients treated at the hospital were children. Three had been brought home, while the other three were still being treated at the hospital, she said on Wednesday.

Another patient was treated at Fakfak Hospital in early December, but the patient had already gone home, said Ambar, a staffer at Papua Health Crisis Center. -- JP
