DEN Emphasises Importance of Energy Efficiency in Strengthening National Resilience
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Energy Council (DEN) has affirmed that energy efficiency is one of the strategic instruments in strengthening national energy resilience, while also supporting the energy transition agenda. “Energy conservation is not merely an efficiency effort, but a strategic step to curb energy consumption, reduce the subsidy burden, and strengthen national energy resilience in the long term,” stated DEN Stakeholder Member from the Environmental Sector, Saleh Abdurrahman, in his official statement quoted from Jakarta on Saturday. DEN emphasised that strengthening policies on energy efficiency and conservation is an integral part of implementing the National Energy Policy (KEN). “Energy efficiency makes a real contribution to lowering energy intensity while encouraging more sustainable economic growth,” he said. This statement was delivered during the briefing for the Student Internship Programme in Energy Efficiency (M2BEE). On that occasion, internship participants were also introduced to the regulatory framework supporting energy conservation. “Various regulations, such as Government Regulation No. 33 of 2023 and Government Regulation No. 40 of 2025, serve as important foundations in promoting the implementation of energy conservation in Indonesia,” Saleh stated. The M2BEE programme is designed to enhance students’ capacity through a combination of theoretical learning and practical experience. “We hope that the participants will be able to comprehensively understand energy conservation and actively contribute to supporting the national energy transition agenda,” he said. Concluding his presentation, Saleh stressed that energy conservation also has a strategic dimension in maintaining national economic stability. “Energy efficiency efforts must become a collective movement because, in addition to strengthening energy resilience, this step also directly contributes to maintaining fiscal sustainability and reducing pressure on energy subsidies,” he remarked.
