Delta Tirta, BNI Jakarta take honors
SURABAYA: Highly favored Delta Tirta and BNI Jakarta took the men's and women's titles respectively at the Indonesia Open Beach Volleyball 2004 in Sidoarjo, East Java, on Sunday.
Both winning teams boast some of the top names in beach volleyball in the country, with Andy and Rama Supriyadi on Delta Tirta and Ni Putu and Riesma on BNI Jakarta.
However, Delta Tirta was forced to fight against Putra Maju in the final, finally scraping out a 2-1 win.
"This win came through our ability to change our strategy, with me changing to blocking instead of my usual defense, and so we triumphed," Andy said after the game.
BNI Jakarta's pair defeated Bank DKI in a closely fought contest in which the score difference was never more than two points.
Bank DKI's team of Siti Nurjanah and Ninik are also part of the national training program with Ni Putu.
"They knew my strategy, which is only to be expected as they're also at the training center," Ni Putu said. -- JP
