Defence Ministry: Drone Near UAE Nuclear Plant Originates from Iraq
Dubai — The United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Defence said on Tuesday that over the past 48 hours its air defence systems detected and intercepted six unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that sought to target civilian and critical areas in the country, three of which appeared near the Barakah nuclear power plant. The drones were reportedly from Iraq.
The Ministry said on X that, during the last 48 hours, UAE air defence systems detected and intercepted six enemy UAVs attempting to strike civilian and vital areas of the country. Technical tracking and monitoring indicated that three drones, two of which had been neutralised, while the third struck a power generator outside the plant’s perimeter.
“In addition, all intercepted UAVs originated from Iraqi territory,” the ministry added.
On Sunday, the UAE Ministry of Defence said that two drones were intercepted, and the third struck a power generator outside the Barakah nuclear power plant’s perimeter.
