Deer chase turns fatal

JAKARTA (JP): The manager of the Medan zoo and one of his
employees drowned in the Deli River while chasing a deer that
escaped from its enclosure on Thursday, Antara reported
yesterday.

The bodies of 30-year-old Yusfiter Perangin-angin and 25-year-
old Darma were found by a search team on Thursday night after
other employees of the zoo reported that they had been gone for
hours.

The two men were found holding hands, an indication that they
were trying to keep afloat in the river, according to local
police.

The deer was believed to have jumped over the fence and then
cross the river, the news agency said. (emb)
