Dedi Mulyadi pushes for paperless village elections across West Java
Bandung (ANTARA) – West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi is urging the use of electronic voting for village-head elections in every village in the province to speed up vote-counting and reduce the cost of holding elections.
“Today, the West Java Provincial Government is delivering fast, low-cost democracy that brings greater efficiency to regional financial management by holding village-head elections through e-voting,” Dedi said in a statement received in Bandung on Wednesday.
Dedi explained that electronic voting allows election results to be known more quickly, as the count does not take long once voting has ended.
“The village-head election uses paperless e-voting, so there is no need to wait long for the count. As soon as the polling booths close, the result can be seen and the winner identified as the village head,” he said.
“All villages in West Java Province are holding their village-head elections using the e-voting method,” he said.
Dedi added that the use of digital technology in village elections should support faster and more accurate governance, including the conduct of democracy at village level.
He said he hoped the digitalisation of village elections would form part of the transformation towards modern and efficient village government.
“Villages are growing into a foundation for progressive development,” he said.
