Dedi Mulyadi Provides Daily Compensation of Rp50,000 to Indramayu Coin Sweepers During Eid Exodus
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi is providing compensation of Rp50,000 per day to each coin seeker around Sewo Bridge, on the Indramayu-Subang border. The compensation is given so that they do not carry out their habit of collecting coins during Eid al-Fitr for the sake of smooth mudik traffic flow.
According to Dedi, this cash incentive policy is taken so that the mudik and return flow during Eid al-Fitr is not disrupted by the activities of coin seekers on the road body, which has often caused traffic congestion on that main Pantura arterial route.
“I am giving Eid money, you are not allowed to look for coins on the Indramayu-Subang route,” said Dedi in a statement in Bandung on Friday, 20 March 2026.
The Head of the West Java Community and Village Empowerment Agency (DPMD), Ade Afriandi, explained that the compensation will be given for 12 days, starting from six days before (H-6) to six days after (H+6) Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.
“During inactivity, there is compensation from the provincial government of Rp50,000 per person per day, multiplied by 12 days,” Ade added.
Based on preliminary data as of Tuesday, 17 March 2026, there are 104 coin seekers in Sukra Village, Indramayu, and 55 people in Karanganyar Village, Subang.
Seasonal coin seekers often appear despite being regulated by security apparatus. Economic factors drive them to seek money on the road. In addition, a longstanding tradition is the reason they go onto the road.
However, the West Java Provincial Government will conduct a re-survey through RT/RW devices to comb through seasonal coin seekers who often appear due to economic factors and inherited traditions.
Dedi asked all residents involved in coin sweeping activities to immediately coordinate with the local village head for the verification process of compensation recipients.
This step is expected to minimise accident risks and ensure the Subang-Indramayu connecting route remains free from side obstacles during the peak mudik and return flow.
