Decree yet to be signed

President Megawati Soekarnoputri is yet to sign a presidential decree confirming the appointment of a new Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA) chairman, according to Metro TV.

The TV station did not give details in its report on Sunday.

State Minister of State Enterprises Laksamana Sukardi, who on Friday said that he had dismissed IBRA chairman I Putu Gede Ary Suta and replaced him with Syafruddin Temenggung, could not be reached for comment.

The Office of the State Minister of State Enterprises oversees IBRA, but changing the agency's chairperson requires the approval of the president.

Deputy Cabinet Secretary Erman Rajagukguk said, "As of Friday, I had not seen the draft decree. But I don't know if it is going to be signed (on Monday)."

A source at the palace said that Megawati had approved the reshuffle at the key institution although she had yet to sign the presidential decree.

The source added that unless there were further big developments Syafruddin would still be installed as the new IBRA chief on Monday.

The source said that if Megawati changed her mind and maintained Ary Suta as IBRA chairman, Laksamana might resign from his post.

"It will be either that Ary Suta stays in power or Laksamana quits his job," the source said. -- JP
