Debt Collector Carrying Sharp Weapon Intended to Injure Advocate in Tangerang
JAKARTA — A debt collector identified as JBI deliberately brought a sharp weapon whilst repossessing a vehicle belonging to an advocate with initials BTS in Kelapa Dua, Tangerang, on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.
Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, head of the public relations division of Metro Jaya Regional Police, stated that the perpetrator had clear intent to injure the victim.
“The fact that the perpetrator brought a sharp weapon indicates there was intent to harm the customer if refusal occurred,” Budi stated when contacted by Kompas.com on Monday, 2 March 2026.
The victim had indeed refused to have the vehicle repossessed, as she believed the methods employed by the perpetrators did not comply with proper procedures.
“The perpetrator brought a sharp weapon in case there was resistance from the debtor or the person in control of the vehicle to be repossessed,” Budi explained.
Meanwhile, two accomplices identified as HK and SS remain at large and have been entered onto the police wanted list.
“The suspected perpetrator with initials J.B.I. was apprehended on Tuesday, 24 February 2026 at 23:50 WIB in Semarang, Central Java. Two other wanted individuals remain at large,” Budi said.
The perpetrators claimed to have authorisation from a financing company, Mandiri Tunas Finance.
“There was a dispute because the victim believed the repossession process did not comply with regulations,” said the victim’s legal counsel, Andri Jurnisal, when met at Tangsel Police Station on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.
During the dispute, the victim’s vehicle was ultimately taken by the debt collectors.
However, as the victim did not yet know the debt collectors’ identities, she requested housing security personnel to detain their vehicle at the residential gate.
“The victim requested security to stop the debt collector’s vehicle so that their identities could be demanded,” Andri said.
After the incident, all three perpetrators immediately fled. The incident was subsequently reported to Kelapa Dua Police Station on Monday evening at approximately 20:30 WIB.
