Death toll from Bantargebang landfill collapse reaches six
JAKARTA — Combined search and rescue (SAR) teams continue efforts to locate victims buried in the landslide at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Management Facility (TPST) in Bekasi City. By the first day of search operations, six fatalities have been confirmed.
Desiana Kartika Bahari, head of Jakarta’s SAR office, stated that teams had evacuated six deceased victims following the landslide that occurred on Sunday, 8 March 2026. The six confirmed fatalities are Enda Widayanti (25 years old), Sumine (60), Dedi Sutrisno, Irwan Supriatin, Jussova Situmorang, and Hardianto.
“The victim count remains subject to verification based on witness accounts and reports from families who have lost relatives,” she said in a statement on Monday, 9 March 2026.
She added that six survivors have been located: Budiman, Johan, Safifudin, Slamet, Ato, and Dofir. One person, Riki, remains missing. In total, 13 people have been affected by the landslide.
Bahari explained that four fatalities were discovered on Sunday, with two additional bodies found on Monday. The combined SAR team’s current operations involve opening access routes using heavy machinery. K9 units have been deployed to search for signs of additional victims.
“Search operations also involve thermal drone surveillance to detect body heat from above,” she said.
On Monday at 12:05 WIB, one deceased victim was located and transported to Polri Kramat Jati Hospital for identification procedures.
