Ahead of Eid al-Fitr, the Religious Holiday Allowance (THR) is one of the rights most anticipated by Muslim workers in Indonesia. This additional fund is typically used for a range of needs, from Lebaran preparations to homecoming (mudik) and helping to meet family expenses. Accordingly, the government each year sets out the mechanism and deadlines for THR payments to ensure workers’ rights are fulfilled. In 2026, the government again reaffirmed the rules on THR payment through a Circular Letter from the Minister of Manpower (Surat Edaran Menteri Ketenagakerjaan). The rules cover not only when the THR must be paid, but also who is eligible to receive it and how the nominal amount is calculated.

Deadline for THR 2026 payment. The Minister of Manpower (Menaker), Yassierli, issued Circular Letter No. M/3/HK.04.00/III/2026 on the Implementation of the Provision of Religious Holiday Allowance for 2026 for workers or labourers in companies. Through the circular, the government emphasised that employers are required to pay THR to workers no later than seven days before the religious holiday. Nevertheless, employers are encouraged to disburse THR earlier so workers can use it for holiday preparations. ‘We request THR be paid no later than; employers are urged to pay sooner,’ Yassierli said on Tuesday, 3 March 2026. He also stressed that the obligation to pay THR has been regulated by applicable regulations, so companies must comply. ‘Based on Government Regulation No. 36 of 2021 on Wages and Minister of Manpower Regulation No. 6 of 2016 on the Religious Holiday Allowance for Workers in Companies, the provision of THR is an obligation that must be carried out by employers for workers,’ he said.

THR Must Be Paid in Full, Not Instalments. In addition to the deadline, the government also emphasised that THR must not be paid in instalments. Companies must disburse it in full to workers in accordance with the applicable provisions. ‘In addition, the religious THR must be paid by employers in full and cannot be instalments,’ he added. This policy is designed to ensure workers receive their rights in full and can use THR for holiday needs with their families.
