Dasco Chairs Parliamentary Meeting on Post-Disaster Recovery in Sumatra
Jakarta, VIVA – The House of Representatives’ Post-Disaster Recovery Task Force (Satgas Galapana) held a coordination meeting with ministers and agency heads to discuss the acceleration of rehabilitation and reconstruction following disasters in Sumatra.
Deputy Speaker of the House Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said the meeting was convened to evaluate post-disaster management in Sumatra, as a follow-up to a previous meeting held in Aceh in January 2026.
“We are conducting an evaluation of post-disaster management in Sumatra, and we have invited the relevant ministers,” Dasco said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He noted that the ministers and agency heads in attendance included the Minister of Home Affairs in his capacity as head of the government task force, the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Deputy Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces, the Commander of the Police Mobile Brigade, the State Secretary Minister, the Finance Minister, and the Public Works Minister.
Also present were the Social Affairs Minister, the Health Minister, the Housing and Settlement Areas Minister, the Primary and Secondary Education Minister, the Religious Affairs Minister, the Trade Minister, the Agriculture Minister, and the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
In addition, the leaders of several relevant House commissions attended the meeting.
Dasco said that at the previous meeting, a target had been set for local government operations in disaster-affected areas to be fully running before the month of Ramadan. According to him, only a handful of local governments remain hampered.
He added that the task force had previously also discussed river normalisation and infrastructure in isolated areas. The House, he said, had confirmed that there are no longer any isolated areas in Aceh, although access remains challenging.
“The terrain is difficult, but there are no more isolated areas, and river normalisation continues to this day,” he said.
Furthermore, he said the House now wishes to ascertain the government’s progress on the provision of temporary shelters and environmental clean-up in disaster-affected areas.
“We have asked the head of the government task force to provide several presentations,” Dasco said.
