The panel of judges at Denpasar District Court has imposed a 12-year prison sentence on defendant Darcy Francesco Jenson (37) in a shooting case that resulted in the death of Australian citizen Zivan Radmanovic and injured Sanar Ghanim in the Canggu area, Badung. The sentence, which many consider too lenient, prompted the victim’s family to express their anger in court.

“The defendant is declared lawfully and convincingly guilty of committing the criminal act of assisting murder,” said chief judge I Wayan Suarta during Monday’s (9 March 2026) hearing.

In the judgment, the panel of judges stated that Darcy is lawfully and convincingly guilty of assisting in the commission of a murder crime. He was charged under Article 338 of the Indonesian Criminal Code concerning murder, jointly with Article 56 concerning aiding and abetting a crime.

The verdict is lighter than the public prosecutor’s previous demand for 17 years of imprisonment for Darcy Francesco Jenson.

The judges, in their considerations, assessed that the defendant played a role in assisting the execution of the criminal act that resulted in the death of Australian citizen Zivan Radman.

Immediately after the judge read the verdict, the victim’s family burst out cursing and jeering at the judge whilst reacting with disappointment, saying “it’s a joke”. The family members also cursed at Darcy following the hearing, calling him a dog. The family expressed their disappointment over the verdict, which they considered far too lenient.

The case originated from a shooting incident at a villa in the Canggu area, Badung, which caused the victim to die at the scene. In addition to killing the victim, the incident also caused another Australian national, Sanar Ghanim, to sustain gunshot wounds but managed to survive.

In the same case, two other defendants, Tupou Pasa Midolmore and Coskunmevlut, have previously been sentenced to 16 years each in prison after being found guilty of murder.

After the verdict reading, the panel of judges gave the public prosecutor and the defendant’s legal counsel an opportunity to state their position on the verdict, whether to accept it or pursue further legal remedies.
