Dangerous parking

Dangerous parking

I would like to inform foreigners, especially those who do not have a driver, not to park at a free supermarket in the Kemang, in the evenings.

For the second time this year, Feb. 11, my Kijang car was interfered with, so that the engine stopped suddenly, approximately 400 meters after leaving the supermarket parking area.

The first time it happened, Jan. 3, was also in the evening. Unbeknownst to me, while I was shopping, somebody interfered with the car and when I left the supermarket parking area, the engine, for unknown reasons, stopped.

Suddenly two young men appeared to repair the engine, requesting Rp 200,000 for the exchange of the ignition coil. I paid for this street repair, not knowing that in Jakarta, especially in the Kemang/Banka area, organized gangsters are operating this kind of crime, to get easy money.

During the second incident I did not pay but requested the supermarket management to help. The manager apologized and promised it would never happen again and instructed their security guard accordingly.

It seems to me that there is a special gang operating in this way, trying to force foreigners to hire a driver, so that the car will be watched all the time.

Every foreigner should be aware of such activities, carried out by criminals, and should immediately report it so that the local police know and can take the necessary action.
