Danantara to Serve as Magnet for Global Investors, Creating Jobs to Address Indonesia's Demographic Bonus
Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM and CEO of Danantara, Rosan Roeslani, has confirmed that his office is pursuing strategic investments to create new employment opportunities, addressing the challenge of Indonesia's demographic bonus with two million babies born each year.
"This is a challenge for Indonesia — how we can create more jobs. And creating jobs is the top priority in Indonesia," Rosan said in an official statement quoted on Monday, 16 June 2025.
Rosan expressed his hope that Danantara would serve as a magnet for global investors to channel capital into Indonesia, particularly in infrastructure projects and downstreaming industries that can create high-quality jobs for the younger generation. He highlighted the demographic challenge, where two million babies are born annually, demanding sustainable job creation as a key priority for long-term, inclusive and productive development.
Rosan explained his dual role as Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM and CEO of Danantara, a new body managing assets exceeding 900 billion US dollars across various strategic national sectors. He stated that all state-owned enterprises (SOEs) now under Danantara's control would be optimised to create added value through consolidation, privatisation, and close collaboration with private sector players both domestically and internationally.
Rosan stressed that it would be impossible to build all major projects alone, making private sector involvement a crucial key to unlocking the nation's various economic potentials. He noted that Danantara currently oversees 50 SOEs and 889 subsidiaries, all directed towards generating maximum economic value through efficiency, innovation, and cross-border strategic partnerships.
Through Danantara, Rosan is opening up co-investment opportunities with international partners across various sectors, with the conviction that such collaboration will bring mutual benefits and accelerate national economic growth.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, said Danantara has a strategic role in infrastructure development. "We hope for good collaboration," he said.
The ICI 2025 event was attended by ministers and deputy ministers of the Merah Putih Cabinet, ambassadors of friendly nations, members of the MPR, DPR and DPD, regional heads, business leaders, academics, and development partners. More than 7,000 participants were recorded as attending, hailing from Indonesia, the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, Japan, Canada, South Korea, Norway, the United Arab Emirates, China, the European Union, Spain, Vietnam, Iran, Singapore, Turkey, Hungary, Myanmar, Denmark, France, the United Kingdom, Russia, Germany, Uruguay, Finland, Switzerland, and Azerbaijan.
