Danantara Signs US$10 Billion MoU with Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power for Renewable Energy Projects
JAKARTA. The Investment Management Agency Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara Indonesia) has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the world's largest private desalination company from Saudi Arabia, ACWA Power. The total project funding amounts to up to US$10 billion, equivalent to approximately Rp162.36 trillion (assuming US$1 = Rp16,236).
The partnership is claimed to be capable of helping Indonesia achieve its target of 34 per cent renewable energy in its total energy mix by 2034 and 87 per cent by 2060.
Danantara Indonesia Chief Executive Officer Rosan Roeslani said the collaboration with ACWA Power represents a step in positioning Indonesia as a key player in the global energy transition.
"This partnership brings capital and expertise to accelerate high-impact projects in solar energy, hydrogen, and integrated water solutions. It reflects our broader commitment at Danantara Indonesia to fostering credible long-term partnerships that support national priorities whilst delivering commercial value," Rosan said in a written statement on Thursday (4 July).
In further detail, the agreement is divided into two MoUs. The first, signed between Danantara Indonesia and ACWA Power, relates to exploration and investment in Indonesia, focusing on renewable energy generation projects, combined cycle gas turbines, green hydrogen, and water desalination.
The second agreement, signed between PT Pertamina and ACWA Power, focuses on the joint development of clean energy projects in Indonesia. This includes the development of cumulative 500MW renewable energy and gas-to-power technology projects, new electricity tenders, green hydrogen projects, and operations and maintenance (O&M) business lines.
Regarding the agreement, Pertamina (Persero) President Director Simon Aloysius Mantiri said the company is fully committed to its twin growth strategy, namely ensuring national energy security whilst accelerating the energy transition.
"Our collaboration with ACWA Power is a strategic step towards realising this vision. By combining strengths in renewable energy, green hydrogen, and sustainable infrastructure," he said.
