Danantara Considers Forming Aircraft Leasing Firm for Garuda Boeing Purchase
The Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) plans to explore the option of forming an aircraft leasing company. Danantara Chief Operating Officer Dony Oskaria stated that the agency is currently studying options for the future of the national airline industry. “We are also currently assessing the possibility of Danantara establishing its own leasing company, and so forth,” he said following a meeting with Commission VI at the House of Representatives (DPR) building in Jakarta on Wednesday (10/6/2026). Dony, who also serves as Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Agency (BP BUMN), revealed the plan after delivering the latest update regarding the purchase of 50 Boeing aircraft by PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (GIAA). Dony explained that for the fleet procurement, the agency will consider various scenarios to find the most profitable arrangement, including aspects related to timing, business models, and leasing structures. Nonetheless, Dony confirmed that Danantara Indonesia and Garuda Indonesia will uphold the commitment made between Indonesia and the United States. “Of course, there are many considerations. However, the commitment must certainly be carried out,” Dony stated. For context, Indonesia has a commitment to the United States to purchase Boeing aircraft. This is part of the commitments arising from the reciprocal import tariff negotiation process enacted by US President Donald Trump. Garuda has committed to purchasing aircraft worth 3.2 billion US dollars, equivalent to Rp51.8 trillion, through to 2029.
