Danantara CEO Confident Downstream Projects Will Absorb 600,000 Workers
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Danantara, Rosan Roeslani, projects that the entire series of national downstream projects will create new employment opportunities for around 600,000 people in Indonesia.
Rosan conveyed this during his report on the 13 second-phase downstream projects, which were symbolically initiated by President Prabowo Subianto in Cilacap, Central Java.
“If we look at the projects we are implementing, they will create employment opportunities reaching approximately 600,000 people,” said Rosan, quoted from a video broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat, Wednesday, 29 April 2026.
Rosan, who also serves as Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM, explained that the job creation is part of the government’s efforts to optimise the added value of state assets through massive industrial development.
The construction process in this second phase is being carried out simultaneously at 13 strategic project sites, following the successful completion of the first phase in early February at 11 different locations.
Some of the second-phase downstream projects include the construction of gasoline refinery facilities in Cilacap and Dumai, and coal processing facilities into Dimethyl Ether or DME in Tanjung Enim.
Additionally, the construction of stainless steel manufacturing, nickel manufacturing, carbon steel slab, copper and gold downstreaming, iron ore, and asphalt production. In the agricultural sector, the development of palm oil processing into oleofood products as well as biodiesel, and downstreaming of coconut and nutmeg products.
The first-phase downstream projects include the alumina smelter in West Kalimantan, bioavtur in Central Java, bioethanol, and industrial salt processing in East Java. Additionally, some constructions from integrated chicken farming in various locations across Indonesia.
Rosan emphasised that Danantara is not just a state asset manager, but also functions as a catalyst for national economic transformation.
“Because our mandate is to create added value, optimise assets, create efficiency, and of course, as a state investment to provide the greatest possible benefits for the Indonesian people,” he stated.
