Customs Authority Tightens Oversight at Soetta Airport Ahead of Nyepi and Eid Holiday Surge
The Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) has tightened operational preparations at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport ahead of the extended holiday period for Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri, which is expected to trigger a surge in international passenger numbers.
Director General of Customs and Excise, Djaka Budhi Utama, conducted a direct inspection of several strategic points at the airport on Tuesday, 17 March, to ensure smooth passenger arrival processes.
During the visit, Djaka inspected the international arrivals area in Terminal 3, including conveyor belt operations and X-ray scanning facilities. He also monitored digital services such as IMEI registration and the operations of the Monitoring Control Room (MCR) to ensure rapid response to field conditions.
Djaka emphasised the importance of balancing service and oversight whilst maintaining a humane approach to passengers. “Service must be optimal and humane so passengers can proceed smoothly through the process. Avoid congestion in terminals by utilising existing technology,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Head of Soekarno-Hatta Customs Office, Hengky Tomuan Parlindungan Aritonang, said the authority had optimised digital infrastructure to anticipate passenger congestion. One measure undertaken is the use of the Auto Gate All Indonesia system for Electronic Customs Declaration (E-CD) reporting, which allows passengers to complete customs obligations independently and more quickly.
Additionally, digital-based IMEI registration services are being strengthened to provide convenience for the public.
The Customs authority affirmed it would continue to maintain a balance between its oversight function regarding potential illegal goods and service provision to passengers, in order to ensure smooth travel flows during the extended holiday period.
