Customs and Police Raid Methamphetamine Laboratory in North Jakarta, 13 Kg of Narcotics Seized
Jakarta — Indonesian Customs (comprising the Narcotics Interdiction Directorate, Jakarta Customs Regional Office, and Pasar Baru Customs) together with the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) have dismantled a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory in the North Jakarta area.
Evidence in the form of more than 13 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine was seized during the operation.
"This case was uncovered as a result of a series of international parcel surveillance operations and intelligence development conducted over three days, from Friday to Sunday, 13–15 February 2026," said Customs Narcotics Interdiction Director R. Syarif Hidayat in a statement on Tuesday, 17 February 2026.
"Operations were carried out at several locations, namely apartments in the Pluit and Sunter areas, as well as a restaurant in East Jakarta," he added.
Hidayat explained that the case originated from the suspicions of Customs officers whilst inspecting postal items from Iran using an X-ray scanner at the Pasar Baru Post Office on Thursday, 12 February 2026.
Officers discovered blue crystals concealed within the walls of a leather crate packaging, which upon testing proved positive for Category I narcotics — crystal methamphetamine — weighing approximately 11.56 kilogrammes.
The evidence was subsequently handed over to Sub-Directorate V of the Bareskrim Polri Narcotics Crime Directorate for a controlled delivery operation. Through case development, on Friday 13 February 2026, officers apprehended an Iranian national with the initials KKF at an apartment in Pluit, who was acting as the parcel recipient.
Further investigation on Saturday, 14 February 2026 led to the arrest of another suspect, an Iranian national with the initials SB, allegedly responsible for processing the methamphetamine, as well as the discovery of an apartment in Sunter functioning as a clandestine laboratory.
At the laboratory site, officers found an additional 1,683 grammes of methamphetamine along with various production equipment including a portable stove, scales, chemical liquids, powder grinding tools, and processing waste residue. On Sunday, 15 February 2026, the joint team conducted forensic crime scene processing.
"These findings confirm that the network served as receivers of goods whilst simultaneously reprocessing narcotics domestically," Syarif added.
He explained that the operation represented a tangible form of public protection against the dangers of narcotics.
The presence of a narcotics laboratory in a densely populated residential area, according to Syarif, also posed significant risks, including drug abuse as well as the potential danger of fire and exposure to toxic chemicals.
