Customer sues Lippo Shop

TANGERANG (JP): A customer, Kusnoro, has filed a lawsuit with the Tangerang District Court against Lippo Shop Internet-based shopping website for deception and demanded Rp 2 billion (US$210,000) in compensation.

The lawyer representing the customer, Adi Yulistanto, told reporters on Wednesday that the company failed to live up to its promise to deliver cigarettes in cartons ordered by his client by phone.

The order, according to Adi, was made five times on Oct. 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 last year, totaling 1,600 cartons, each containing 10 packs.

"Lippo Shop did deliver the cigarettes on Oct. 23, but not all the cartons ordered reached my client," Adi said, adding that his client had demanded arrears and issued three warnings after the company failed to heed his demand.

Adi said his client deserved the compensation due to the material and immaterial losses he suffered.

Lippo Shop management was unable to be reached for comment on Wednesday, but a staffer, who identified herself as Novi, said there is an agreement between the company and its customers that an order exceeding 1,000 cartons of cigarettes is not allowed due to limited supply. (41)
