Culture Minister Receives Founder of Papua Museum in Germany, Strengthens Cultural Diplomacy
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, received Werner Weiglein, a German enthusiast and admirer of Indonesian culture, as part of efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy network at a global level.
During the meeting at the Ministry of Culture’s office in Jakarta, Minister Fadli expressed his appreciation for Werner Weiglein’s dedication, as he has actively promoted the cultural richness of the archipelago in Europe for decades.
“He has documented this collection and written a fairly comprehensive narrative about it,” said Minister Fadli, in a press statement received on Wednesday.
Since the 1970s, Werner Weiglein has collected various cultural artefacts. In the 1980s, he undertook several journeys and expeditions to various regions of Indonesia, including Sulawesi and Papua.
These experiences were then documented in his writings, which chronicle his travels and the cultural richness he encountered.
Through this meeting, the Ministry of Culture reaffirmed its commitment to continuing to strengthen its cultural diplomacy network with various international partners.
Efforts to preserve, document, and promote Indonesian culture abroad are an important part of the strategy to advance culture as a nation’s soft power at the global level.
Werner combines documentation with comprehensive narratives. “We can do more than this, and all the photos in this book are his own,” Werner explained.
