Jakarta (ANTARA) - Culture Minister Fadli Zon continues to promote efforts to revitalise the palace, museums, and cultural areas within the Surakarta Hadiningrat Palace in Central Java in a gradual and sustainable manner.

According to him, the revitalisation does not only focus on the physical repair of buildings but also includes strengthening historical narratives, professional management, and the utilisation of technology to enhance public experiences.

“The Surakarta Hadiningrat Kasunanan Palace is one of the centres of Javanese cultural civilisation that has great potential to become a world-class cultural destination. Through planned and collaborative revitalisation, we want to present a living, competitive, and sustainable cultural area,” said Fadli Zon during the Eid al-Fitr silaturahmi at the palace, in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday.

The Culture Minister emphasised that the Surakarta Hadiningrat Kasunanan Palace holds an important position as a centre of Javanese culture that preserves long-standing historical values, traditions, and civilisation.

The palace’s status as a national-ranked cultural heritage area demands collective responsibility in safeguarding, maintaining, and preserving the values contained within it, in line with the constitutional mandate to advance national culture amid global civilisation.

During the event series, Fadli inspected several areas within the palace environment, including Siti Hinggil and the Palace Museum, to directly assess the condition of the buildings and the potential for developing the area as a cultural destination.

“This Kilen Palace has very important historical value. We will carry out a comprehensive study, planning, and mapping process, with implementation targeted to start this year. In the future, this area will be developed as part of an open museum accessible to the public,” he stated.

Panembahan Tedjowulan, as the executor of the protection, development, and utilisation of the Surakarta Hadiningrat Kasunanan Palace cultural heritage area, invited the entire extended palace family to prioritise common interests for the advancement and preservation of the palace.

He stated that the palace area revitalisation plan will be implemented gradually, sustainably, and requires synergy from various parties.
