The Regional Cultural Heritage Preservation Office (BPKwil) XVIII of the Ministry of Education and Culture has installed a boundary line at the site of a human bone discovery in the megalithic valley of Napu, Central Sulawesi.

“We have installed a temporary boundary fence because the discovery is in an open area, so a barrier is needed,” said Cultural Supervisor Chalid of BPKwil XVIII for Central Sulawesi and West Sulawesi, when contacted in Palu on Sunday, in response to the finding of human bones in the Napu cultural heritage area.

He explained that the human skeleton discovery in the area has not been excavated by his office since January 2026 due to various considerations.

Currently, BPKwil XVIII has deployed a caretaker to Napu to conduct monitoring as part of securing the discovery.

He stated that there are several alternatives that could potentially be implemented, such as maintaining the position of the finding as a display or open-air museum.

Alternatively, salvaging it by lifting the discovery to a suitable and safe location such as a museum, village office, or other places, or reburying the exposed finding.

“The human bone discovery is in a container that has already broken in the ground. Therefore, the options of an open-air museum or relocating the discovery are difficult to implement, considering the container is already broken and prone to landslides,” Chalid said.

He urged the local community to help the government protect the discovery, as it is part of the protected megalith.
